Yggdrasil in 2026: The Year of Innovation

Casino Guide. Thank you for taking the time to chat with us! Let’s start with the basics: could you tell us a bit about Yggdrasil and what you think makes your studio stand out in today’s very competitive slot market?
Lexuri Arnaiz: Yggdrasil is one of the most respected casino suppliers in the industry, we are also one of the most innovative providers. Our vision is to be recognized not just as a game supplier, but as a technology partner and industry reference.
CG. For someone who has never tried a Yggdrasil slot before, which game would you personally recommend starting with?
Lexuri Arnaiz: Personally, I recommend MexoMax 2 WildEnergy™ MultiMax™, the title introduces two powerful GEMs, WildEnergy™ and MultiMax™, that add sticky wilds and multipliers to make the game more dynamic and exciting.
CG. Do you have a game in your portfolio that you feel deserves a bit more attention from players?
Lexuri Arnaiz: All of our games are design thinking on the player, but one game that could stand out more is Bob Marlin Goes Splashing Wild Fight™ RushingWilds™, it features two Game Mechanics made in Ygg’s lab: Wild FightTM and RusinghWildsTM, that sparks a chain reaction of unstoppable wins.
CG. What does the typical development process for a slot look like at Yggdrasil, from the first idea to the final launch?
Tomasz Kowalik: A typical slot development process at Yggdrasil starts with the concept phase, where ideas are generated based on market trends, player preferences, and creative direction.
Once the concept is approved, the game moves into pre-production. Here, detailed game design documents are created, covering math models, gameplay features, user experience, and art direction.
In the production phase, we begin by creating the visual assets and animations that bring the game to life. In parallel, we develop the music and sound effects to complement the overall experience. During this time, the math model is refined and game mechanics are finalized through continuous gameplay testing on prototypes to ensure everything feels engaging and well-balanced.
Once these foundations are in place, developers start assembling the game, integrating the visual assets with the backend game logic and math engine.
Testing is an integral part of the process and starts early, already during the finalization of math and mechanics. QA engineers prepare test plans based on the game design and continuously test the game as it is being developed.
Once internal testing is completed, the game is submitted for certification. Independent certification labs verify that the game complies with all regulatory standards in the markets where it will be released.
After this period, the game is released globally, making it available to all operators across our network. Post-launch, we continue monitoring performance and player engagement to do future improvements.
CG. Out of all the ideas that come up internally, roughly how many actually make it all the way to release?
Ricardo Viana: Currently we run on 75% conceptapproval and slotted into the roadmap every 3 months.
The remining 25% are passed over, for any number of reasons; ranging from gameplay issues to themes no longer popular with our current player base.
Using our new technology “Game in a BoxTM” we can quickly assess the potential for the concept and gameplay earlier than before, allowing us to “Separate the wheat from the chaff”.
The good part is, even the games that aren’t released have at least 1 element that is recorded and stored, for use in a future game.
Even a broken clock is right twice a day, from negatives we find a positive.
CG. Where do your designers usually find inspiration when creating new slot themes or mechanics?
Ricardo Viana: Ideas on games and mechanics come from everywhere and anything.
Some games we create are meant to answer a need in the market, or a game type that is required in our library to offer operators. Some come from the math model and mechanic first where are others based on just a theme or artistic direction. But whatever the reason, its broken down into three starting points, as follows:
The Icing on the cake.
We have designers that start with the math model and mechanics first. From this angle the theme and overall creative direction work to highlight the feel, and mechanical experience the designer intended.
From outside looking in.
Some designers start with a theme/story, breaking down where the key points are presented and then build a gameplay model that is highlight the audio & visual. Here the gameplay is added to provide the entertainment experience the designer intended.
Hole in the wall.
On a few titles, the direction is sparked by what the market is doing. By analyzing the games available, their popularity and performance, we create a few titles to fill in those gaps.
Please understand this does not mean we are making clones. That will never happen on my watch.
Instead, we see what is out there and we aim not to make one just as good, but one that is better or offers a mechanic the original doesn’t have.
CG. Sweden is one of Europe’s most regulated gambling markets. Has that influenced the way you approach game design or innovation?
Lexuri Arnaiz: Regulatory compliance is a top priority. Our compliance and legal teams work hand in hand with our game developers and design teams to create titles that engage players while meeting all applicable market requirements. Every game is carefully reviewed to ensure full alignment with the laws and regulations of each jurisdiction.
CG. Looking ahead, which upcoming game from your pipeline are you personally most excited about launching?
Lexuri Arnaiz: We are very excited about the release of Coo Coo Cashoo Lightning LinesTM, it’s the first game to introduce Lightning LinesTM a brand-new Game Engagement Mechanic that dynamically changes the number of symbols from 2 to 7 and gives 117,649 ways to win.
CG. Can players expect to see any new mechanics or gameplay features from Yggdrasil in 2026?
Lexuri Arnaiz: We are proud of our innovation-driven mindset. From design to commercial, innovation is at the heart of everything we do. That is why I can assure you that never-before-seen features are coming in 2026.
We have already kicked things off with the creation of the new GEM Lightning Lines™, and soon we will begin delivering more games developed with our new in-house technology, Game in a Box™, which accelerates the development process and allows games to launch in less than two months.
CG. And finally, can you tease us with any upcoming releases we might see in Swedish casinos in 2026?
Lexuri Arnaiz: 2026 is a year of major innovation at Yggdrasil. We are finalizing Q1 with the launch of the new GEM LightningLines™, and we will continue delivering exciting new games through our Game in a Box™ technology, which allows us to deliver more titles in less time.
I encourage players and partners to follow us on our social channels to stay up to date with our latest releases, because 2026 is all about new games, new mechanics, and new stories — and no one will want to miss what’s coming next.
